Art criticism, as a creative spiritual activity, is an important force in promoting the development of art practice. It influences and enriches the creative cognition of artists through the evaluation of artworks, and is the source of impetus to promote mutual exchanges and debates among various artistic thoughts, creative ideas, artistic schools and styles, and it also builds a bridge between artworks and their appreciators. Reading artists’ interviews and dialogues enables us to experience the inner world and real life of the creators more vividly, to understand the vivid stories behind the works, and helps us to recognize and comprehend the value and significance of creation from a broader and richer level. An artist’s personal portfolio can clearly show the veins and clues of the artist’s creation, and comprehensively present the value of creation as a whole. Records of artistic activities, on the other hand, let us know that the history of art is participated and written by a large number of vivid individual lives. All these texts together build a rich and complete art information system, the importance of which is self-evident.
The Archives Box project
Is one of the five important projects of the archive, which was initially launched based on the reality that, firstly, in the field of performance art, the works and events created by the artists often become the focus of attention, but the related theoretical research texts, critical articles, as well as the dialogues and interviews about the artists’ creative life are often ignored; and secondly, due to the own qualities of the performance art, which makes it distant and indifferent to the art market, the economic difficulties make it difficult for the performance artists to publish their individual works in collections, and the art activities and projects are rarely published in albums. Secondly, due to its own characteristics, performance art is distant and indifferent to the art market, and economic difficulties make it difficult for performance artists to publish individual collections of their works, and art activities and projects are seldom published in picture albums. Even if they do, the number of works is often scarce and the dissemination surface is narrow. Undoubtedly, this situation will cause great difficulties and regrets for the promotion and research of performance art. The Archives project seeks to collect, archive and display such documents in a targeted manner, so that they can be more systematically preserved and widely presented, and become a public resource to be read and studied by relevant people.
